Howling urn -  Illustration from the Duel of Meloch game, oriental, exotic adventure in my 1920+ world.

So this time we have card artwork. I really like this one, so I thought I will share the process behind it. Painting is pretty straightforward, so I wanted to share more about the thought process and whole idea. The main inspiration for it was a statuette, an artifact depicting ancient egyptian god Bes, the dwarf god of music and the defense against evil which I saw in the Louvre a few years ago. Even though it;s a good guardian god, its image and statuettes are quite sinister. This has always inspired me and stimulated my imagination. I imagined, okay, but what would happen if scholars and archaeologists misinterpreted his meaning and he was actually some ancient, dark deity. So I decided to include him in one of the card illustrations, but on the monumental scale of the enormous statue of Meloch. It's also an easter egg for anyone, like me, interested in ancient history and culture. Hope you like it.
